Growing Hibiscus in Containers:

Pot size: Container size should be between 8”-12” depending on the sizes of the plants. Reporting should be done only if the roots come out from the container.

Soil mix: Hibiscus can be grown in ordinary garden soil. However the best potting mix will be of 50% garden soil, 20% Vermi Compost, 10% Sand, 15% Coco Peat and rest 5% (Super Phosphate, Potash, Neem cake, Horn meal/ bone dust). Always make sure that your growing hibiscus plant has excellent drainage.
Sunlight and temperature:  At least six hours of sunlight, especially if you want to see lovely blooms. Please remember that hibiscus flowers blooms best in temperatures between 60-90 F. (16-32 0C) and cannot tolerate temps below (32 F-00C.).

Watering: It requires large amounts of water in their blooming stage. Your hibiscus will need daily watering in warm weather. However once the weather cools, your hibiscus needs far less water, and too much watering can kill it. In the winter, water your hibiscus only when the soil is dry to the touch.

Fertilizer: Hibiscus requires good amount of fertilizers. Both organic and chemical fertilizers may be used. In the summer, use a high potassium fertilizer. Best mixed fertilizer will be like super phosphate, potash, horn meal / bone meal, mustard cake and neem cake in appropriate proportions. It is advised to use magnesium sulfate twice a month or any other micro nutrients.

Organic liquid fertilizer (mustard cake + neem cake + vermi and a small amount of DAP) can be used.
Please dig the upper layer of the soil once in every month and add vermi compost for best result.

Don’t use mustard cake in rainy season. Please use fungicide on rainy season.

Pest control: Common pest and insects which mainly attack hibiscus plants are Spider Mites, Mealy bugs, Aphids, White Flies, Thrips, Scale and Caterpillar.

You may use organic pesticide, like Neem oil on every 15 days to prevent your plants from insects and pests.

Chemical pesticides can be used:

Thiamethoxam 25 % WP (Kills sucking pests like: White fly, Mealy bugs, Aphids, Beet fly, Scale)

Dimethoate 30% EC (Multi tasking chemical pesticide highly effective on almost every sucking pest and caterpillar pest)

Chlorpyrifos 20EC (Multi tasking chemical pesticide and may kills pests like White fly, Mealy bugs, Aphids, Beet fly, Scale, Borer, Leafhopper, Caterpillar, termite control ETC )
